Membership is free to all West Coast (Westland, Grey, Buller) and Selwyn District residents. You can join online here. When collecting your card you will need to show photo ID (driver's license, passport) and proof of address. Examples of proof of address are telephone, electricity and rates bills, bank statement, tenancy agreement.

Children under 18 years can join the library online here. The guarantor (parent or guardian) needs to show photo ID and proof of address when collecting the child's library card.

Yes, the library has five internet computers for public use. Wifi is available 24/7.

There is no limit on the number of items that can be borrowed. Books are issued for three weeks, or a maximum extended loan period of six weeks. DVDs, and magazines are issued for one week. Magazines will not be renewed.

No sorry, your books will need to be returned to the library that issued them.

Adult - 30c per item per day (max $9 per item) and Children - no charge

All Westland District Library books are free to borrow. DVDs are $3 for one week issue.

Go to CATALOGUE. Click MY ACCOUNT and log in with your library card number and password/passcode. Click on the Checkouts tab. Tick the boxes for the items you want to renew. Click on renew. Click on Logout. Please Note: Items issued for six weeks cannot be renewed and Magazines and National Library Audios cannot be renewed. OR Download the BookMyne app onto your smartphone or tablet here and use it to renew items, view, remove or suspend holds, check profile information and change your pin, search the catalogue and place a hold.

No. Visitors cannot join the library to borrow physical items. We do have free Internet and free Wifi available. We also sell cancelled library books at the entrance to the library.
