How do I set my eReader up to download eBooks?

 

 

Overdrive is a digital media platform which allows you to download eBooks and eAudio books for free.Members of Westland District Library can access Overdrive through the South Island Downloadable Zone Before you start downloading you need to make sure you have everything set up first. eBooks can be transterred to a range of devices such as PCs, Macs, eReaders and mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones. The Kindle is not compatible with Overdrive.

 Setting up an eReader - What you need to do

  • A computer (Windows or Mac)
  • A compatible eReader - Click here to make sure your device is compatible with Overdrive
  • The USB cable that came with the eReader
  • Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) for Windows or MAC needs to be downloaded onto your computer.Click here to download it now. This is where your eBooks will download into
  • Once you have downloaded ADE, you need to authorize ADE with your computer. Open up ADE and click on HELP up the top and click on Authorize computer
  •  Make sure the eBook vendor is set on Adobe ID (there is a drop down box) . Click on Create an Adobe ID. You will only need to do this once.
  • Return back to Authorize computer ADE and enter in your Adobe ID (your email address) and your password that you just set up
  • To find out what eBooks are available now, click on collections up the top and under Ebooks click on Available now 
  • Find a book you would like to download and click on book jacket
  • Where it says BORROW - click on the drop down arrow and select how long you would like to take the eBook out for. You have a choice of 7, 14 or 21 days
  • Click on  BORROW
  • Click on GO TO LOANS
  • Where it says DOWNLOAD - click on the arrow to see the drop down menu. You may be given a choice of PDF or EPUB eBook. Choose EPUB
  • Click on DOWNLOAD
  • This will download straight into Adobe Digital Editions and now you need to transfer it to your eReader
  • Plug your eReader device into your computer. You will see your device name will show up on the left hand side in Abobe Digital Editions. See below:
  • Drag your book to your device on the left hand side. You will see a green + sign. Let it go and it will download
